Glen Eden Santa Parade

Last weekend we took the kids to the Glen Eden Santa Parade. It's still strange to have Christmas stuff happening in warm weather, but I'm starting to get used to it. It was a small parade, but the kids had fun. Let the holiday's begin!

The Rockets - Week 3

Sorry, no pictures this week. Well, the Rockets faced another VERY tough team this week. They were disciplined, could hit well and could throw and catch well. The Rockets played hard but were no match for the other team really. The first two innings went quickly for us, with very few runs scored. Then we had our last at bats and came alive. Unfortunately it was too late. We ended up losing 32-16. Still, it was a good game, and the kids are improving by leaps and bounds each and every week. Keep up the good work Rockets!

Layla's Obstacle-A-Thon

Today was a special night at Layla's kindergarten...it was obstacle-a-thon night! Layla has been practicing the course quite a lot recently and has done quite well. There were a lot of people there from the kindy and from the community. I ended up on the BBQ, which was good, and the kids had a BIG play! By the looks of things, the kindergarten raised A LOT of money! It was a fun night, and the kids had a ball. Well done Layla!

The Rockets - Week 2

The Rockets played a great game this past Saturday, however they ended up losing 33-25. The team they were playing, the Titans, are a team that has been together for a full year now and were VERY disciplined in the field. Apparently our team is only one of two that is full of 1st year players, so we had better get used to that sort of team. Regardless, the kids played great and there was even a phenomenal play at the plate on the final batter of the 2nd inning. Talor did well overall. He was the leadoff batter and got some good hits. In fact, he reached base and scored each time he went to the plate (that is after his 1st at bat when he WOULD have made it had he not run to 3rd base instead of 1st). It was exciting, entertaining and fun! Bring on next week, and thanks Grumpy for the awesome photos!

Motorcycle Races

Today Talor, Layla, Grumpy and I went to Pukekohe Raceway to watch the motorcycle races. We have been wanting to go for a while, but a student of mine was racing today so it seemed like the perfect opportunity. We had free range of the stands and pit areas, so the kids got up close and personal with the whole experience. They even got to hang out and talk with one of the riders (my student)! The weather was beautiful, and we all had a great time!

Introducing...The Rockets!

Today was a big day! It was supposed to be last weekend, but due to rain it was pushed to today. Today, The Rockets played their first tee-ball game for the season and Talor played his first ever game of tee-ball. He was so excited this morning and was looking great!

And here we go...Talor had some good swings overall. In his 2nd at bat he hit a solid shot to right field that got past everyone. In his first ever game, 2nd at bat, the kid hit his first home run! Not a bad start. He ended up getting on base after each time at bat and scored in each inning. Not a bad start.

In the field, he played infield, outfield and catcher. The parents had a good laugh at him and said that he was "so cute" because after the ball was hit he would pick up the bat and try to hand it to the coach of the other team. He paid no attention to the ball being thrown to home plate by his own teammates...he wanted to politely hand over the bat. He finally got the hang of it and was ultimately able to be both polite AND a catcher.

One of the highlights for all of the kids (Layla included) was to wear the catchers mask.

Overall, it was a fun game. The Rockets ended up winning a barn burner of a game, 28-27. It was not what you would call a defensive game, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. Congratulations Talor and The Rockets!
